The Fulton Place Sunshine Garden (Community Garden) is looking to fill key roles on our committee for the 2024 growing season!  The Sunshine Garden was founded with an aim to cultivate community, fertilize environmental stewardship, pollinate educational experiences, and germinate healthy living.  Please reach out to fpcgcontact@gmail.com if you are interested in joining our committee.

  • Garden Coordinator - this is taking on a lead position to help the garden maintain or adjust key focuses, and coordinating all the other roles in the committee.

  • Secretary - this is taking on agenda and minutes for the committee.

  • Community Liaison - this involves being a director at large on the Fulton Place Community League Board to keep communications between the committee and the League Board.

Are you interested in gardening with us?  Become a Fulton Place Community Sunshine Garden Member

Sunshine Garden Members must attend the pre-season meeting, learn about the gardening process, sign a Garden Contract (see document below), and be assigned a Sunshine Garden plot.

Are you interested in being a part of the garden group and contributing towards the garden, but don't necessarily want your own individual garden plot? Become a Friend of the Sunshine Garden.

Friends of the Sunshine Garden help plant and maintain the communal areas of the garden, including the fruit trees and shrubs, and the nine communal garden plots. These crops will be shared across members of the garden. Friends of the Sunshine Garden can share knowledge (or gain knowledge) from other gardeners and in return meet new neighbours and make new friendships. We want to include as many community members as possible in the Garden, regardless of age, gardening knowledge, or ability.  Friends of the Sunshine Garden are asked to sign a Non-Plot Statement of Expectations (see document below).

The Sunshine Garden is focused on meeting the needs of seniors and children, as there are many seniors and young families in our neighbourhood.  As such, several garden plots are raised 25" off the ground, where someone with reduced mobility can easily garden from a walker or wheelchair, or sit on the side of the garden bed to garden. Our garden shed will also be accessible to those with reduced mobility and we have ergonomic gardening tools available especially designed for those gardening from a seated position.  For children, we have entered into exciting community partnerships with Fulton Place Childcare Association, Capilano Playschool Association, and Hardisty K-9 School to ensure children in the neighbourhood have access to the garden and can learn about growing food.

The Sunshine Garden Free Food Box

Our Free Food Box is now available for those with a bit of surplus to leave shelf stable foods for those in need to take, as part of our effort to support our community in meaningful ways.

In 2023 we'll announce an additional program for sharing free produce.

The Free Food Box is located below the Free Library at the Sunshine Garden.  Please leave some food if you are able, and take some food if you require.
